St. Patrick's Day at FOUND in Kerrytown

Wee Bit 'o Green Sale at FOUND in Kerrytown on St. Pat's Day!
As kids, we would craft green construction paper chains and shamrock decorations this time of year.  And make absolutely certain we were wearing something green on March 17th, lest we get pinched by our classmates.  Wearing even a tiny bit of green was protection - through proving you had green flowers on your underwear was not something the teacher approved of... green socks were easier to prove.
On the day that honors St. Patrick and my Irish Gramma, FOUND celebrates by encouraging you to find wee bits of green throughout the shop and saving big green!  Any item in the shop that has the color green as part of it is 17% off for that day only.  Not only the things that are obviously green, but things like the Morning Mint lotion with green on the label. And books with green covers. Cards and prints with green illustrations. FOUND magazine.  And jewelry made from green postage stamps. Oh, my.  ALL of the Green Daffodil Soy candles will be 17% off that day.
soy.rosemarymint
It will be a good day to check out the new brooches and earrings made from recycled zippers - the green ones will be 17% off.
zipper.pins
There are still a few cozy scarves made from recycled cashmere sweaters with a bit of green in them.  And many of the Burlap Boutique totes are made from coffee bags with green printing in the labels. It's a treasure hunt. Wee bits of green are everywhere!

If you're looking for Easter candles or maybe a new bunny, you might save a bit of green, too.

Some of my favorite frames from FoundRe have some touches of vintage green from long ago.

We'll be open on St. Patrick's Day from 11:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., with green socks on and some green cookies to share!
Here's tipping my hat to you and wishing you the luck of the Irish all year long!

Fit for a Queen! New pendants at FOUND in Kerrytown

hairnet The package claims these Royalty vintage hair nets are "fit for a queen!".   At FOUND, the latest editions to our charm and pendant collection are what we think a queen or your mother might want more. But, whether you have a use for a real hand-made human hair net or not, the packaging is classic vintage beauty shop kitsch.  And so they are displayed right along-side some of our new jewelry collection. From left to right are a few of the new pendants: an hourglass, Eiffel Tower, lucky shamrock, mini birdcage and teeny tiny magnifying glass (which really magnifies!).  These pendants are only $14 each.  They come with a well designed easy release clasp toggle. The miniature hourglass and magnifying glass might be just be perfect for our fairy-sized friends as well.... pendants Other pieces from the same company include letters to form initials or special words. We spelled out LOVE on a charm bracelet. pendants.letters   pendants.mixed We still have Nunn Design Patera findings to make your own customized charms and pendants.  And found little word charms to add to your jewelry. The necklaces below are complete and ready to wear, but we also got the component tiny word charms for those of you who prefer to assemble your own. pendants.words As always, FOUND is open 7 days a week, in the historic Kerrytown Market & Shops.  407 N. 5th Avenue, Ann Arbor, Michigan.   P.S.  broken watch parts are back in stock if you like to craft with them. watchparts Continue reading

March 2013 at FOUND: Vintage dolls and toys

mohair.tiger Went on a quick vintage buying trip for FOUND at the end of February.  Then March came in like the proverbial lion - with plenty of snow and ice in Ann Arbor.  Today was a sunshiny day, nice and cozy by the windows.  Cozy like this furry little mohair cub at the shop. We've been busy adding lots of older things to FOUND lately.  Here are some of my favorite finds.  The outfit on this vintage doll looks like she was a working girl or traveling in style - with her wool tweed jacket and felted hat, and red shoes to compliment the ensemble!  But she got pretty dirty along the way - wonder what adventures she had and where she's been.  Her owner clearly didn't leave her sitting on a shelf. doll.hat Here's a little purse she may have carried - or it could have been carried by the little girl that owned her.  It's fun to hang little coin purses in a grouping on the wall - or incorporate them into artful assemblages.  I don't mind that they are a bit rusty.  Do you? coin.purses These antique baby dolls definitely have "condition problems" - peeling skin, crazed composition, crazy hair, discoloration - but there's something about seeing them up on the shelf that makes me smile, knowing each was once some little girl's special dolly. dolls.3babies I found this bright eyed bisque doll and a bunch of odd doll parts, like extra legs and arms that could be used in projects. doll.google   dolls.littlechina Some antique dolls have glass eyes that are haunting.  This doll is composed of a variety of materials, with straw filled arms and legs that are disintegrating.... doll.glass.eyes Tiddledy Winks? Tiddley Winks? Whatever you call it, the image on this box is wonderful.  And it come with bakelite "winks". tiddleywinks Other children's finds include a few trucks, doll suitcase, lots of lead soldiers, a group of mohair puppets, some antique ABC blocks and more.  Stop in soon to see what we've found!   Continue reading

Vintage Valentines cards & gifts at FOUND

You can find plenty of vintage Valentine's gifts and goodies at FOUND in Ann Arbor this week.  I especially love the sweet images on vintage valentine cards circa 1930's and early 1940's: vintage.valentine Laurie from Stories & Divinations brought in a wonderful selection handcrafted valentine.   We have a half dozen new styles of valentine cards from her this year. Love the one signing L-O-V-E! valcards I love it when we have little gifties that are made right here in Ann Arbor - like these hand-stitched hearts made with vintage felted blanket wool.  Great to attach to a package with a little present for your sweetheart on February 14th! hearts.felted I always look for old skeleton keys.  They are getting harder to find these days.... but I found some!  Just in time for Valentine's Day. Tie a key to your heart with a red ribbon to a handwritten love  note.... keys.valentines A mother and daughter bought spoon rings at FOUND and texted this photo - what a great Valentine's gift idea! spoon.rings Spell out messages with scrabble letters - who wouldn't love to be greeted by this at breakfast? scrabble.valentine The last few weeks, we've been restocking the shop and have lots of great jewelry and gifts for your sweetie.  Our fresh batch of cashmere scarves made from recycled sweaters will keep your valentine cozy and warm.  Another thing I especially like are the stamp sets with hearts - great for making your own cards or decorating gift wrap any time of year.  Our new order of red sealing wax and heart shaped stamps arrived in time for Valentines Day, too. found.valentine When I was in Illinois last month, the owner of the Fairbury Antique Mall gave me the valentine postcard above.  She'd set it aside, knowing  that I would appreciate it.  I do!  That sweet gesture reminded me that valentine's day is a great time to pass around the love with little unexpected surprises. Happy Valentine's Day to all of you from FOUND!         Continue reading

   ...fairydoorbookcover
Thanks!  We REALLY appreciate that so many of you have been Thinking Local First when it comes to checking things off your lists!  It's been a bustling season - here's what we have planned for these last few shopping days:

Festive Friday with (Fairy) Door Prizes and cookies:  FOUND and our Kerrytown neighbors will beopen 'til 9:00 pm this Friday, December 21st for your holiday shopping convenience.  That evening, we'll have some homemade cookies, some special sales, AND (Fairy) Door Prizes!  Originally, we were just going to have regular door prizes, but since the Urban Fairies built a fairy door and their workshop right in our front window, we decided some "Fairy Door Prizes" would be better.  You might win the new Fairy Door poster (with FOUND's little Fairy Door on it) or a copy of the revised "Who's Behind the Fairy Door" book by Urban Fairyologist Jonathan Wright.  Stop by anytime Friday until 9 p.m. to register and to peak through the FOUND Fairy Door.  Maybe you'll even catch a fairy at work... We'll draw a winner at closing time Friday night.

Great gifts and holiday decor:  We do carry the Fairy Door posters and books now, as well as Ann Arbor Observed by Katherine Larson, Ann Arbor magnets for stocking stuffers, frames from Urban Ashes, Stories & Divinations journals, "fork" art, soy candle gift sets from Green Daffodil, Burlap Boutique stockings and Sarah Stanton jewelry. We got a new shipment of Ann Arbor coordinates pillows just in time for gift giving.  This week we have 20% off ribbons for gift wrapping and 20% off holiday pillows. Merry Multiples continues through the end of the month.  If you still need a little tree or a natural looking wreath, we have some really nice ones.  FOUND is a good place to come for instant decorating ideas, musical "crackers" for your table and fun little stocking stuffers.  We have a new style gift box for our Gift Cards.  As I write this, we still have chocolate-filled candy canes - but this weekend will be busy, so don't wait too long or they may all be gone...

Sing to us:  if you sing or hum a little holiday song this weekend (or recite a holiday poem if you don't sing), we'll give you 20% off any holiday merchandise.  If you can get others to join in, we'll up that discount!

Urban Fairy workshop

fairydoor.little By now most you know that the front window at FOUND has been taken over by Urban Fairies who have turned it into their late night workshop (and garage).  Sometimes there is evidence that they have been pilfering supplies from FOUND - we don't scold them (cause they wouldn't listen anyway).  And besides, we kinda like that they like to hang around the shop at night when we're gone.  Sometimes weeks go by without any activity, but then there will be a flurry!  ***THIS week they decorated for the holidays and seem to be making jewelry or something.  Here's the evidence: fairydust In addition to what's inside the fairy door, there seems to be plenty of fairy dust in the windowsill.  hmmm.... fairydoor.holiday fairycummutor This Friday, Dec. 21, we'll be open til 9 p.m.  for your shopping convenience.   We'll have cookies and a few (Fairy) Door Prizes.  Perhaps some fairies will be at their workshop that night.  You never know....   Continue reading
