Katie Bramlage is a full-time ceramicist and woodworker, based in the Detroit suburb of Hazel Park. A native to Michigan, Katie’s childhood was filled with treks through the Great Lakes landscapes, collecting rocks and a love of nature as she went. Graduating in 2011 from the College for Creative Studies in downtown Detroit, she considers herself to be a “modern cave girl,” using primarily wood and clay to create her art.
Much of Katie’s work is inspired by her love of the outdoors. It was the love of nature that lead her to Oregon and Colorado, where in the midst of hiking grand landscapes, the shapes and textures of objects as simple as sticks and stones also inspired her imagination. When Katie returned to Michigan to study at CCS, she took all she collected from her travels and put it into her work.
Crafting primarily in white and neutral hues, Katie’s ceramics have a clean, modern aesthetic. Each piece is individually formed out of clay with intention and care. Found is pleased to carry Katie’s signature woven ceramic cave girl baskets, as well as an ever-changing collection of organic “pebble plates”, jewelry and talisman. An unexpected collection by a truly unique Michigan artist!
