Tiny ornaments at FOUND

Lots of people decorate miniature trees with tiny little ornaments.  We found many styles that work on a small Christmas tree (or as little gift tie-ons).  You could make little ornaments with bottle caps and a holiday pictue, or purchase the ones we have at FOUND! Mini sheep look great on this new "feather tree" that is available at FOUND.  In Victorian times, small Christmas trees were handcrafted using actual bird feathers, usually goose feathers.  I once found a blue antique feather trees - each feather had been dyed.  Speaking of miniatures - wouldn't this 1930's vintage doll house be fun to decorate for the holidays?  We have 2 nice wooden doll houses at FOUND right now if you're in the market to buy a house... I wonder if urban fairies might take up residence in a doll house... don't think so, but we do know that urban fairies HAVE set up a workshop and garage in the front window at FOUND.  And it's on the latest version of official Fairy Doors of Ann Arbor poster.  Have a good week.  And don't forget to look around for tiny things that bring a smile to your face!     . Open til 9 p.m.  Fresh trees, greens & Gift Market outside, caroling, santa and more.   I'll send more information on each of these as the time gets closer.  Right now it just seems too early to write (or think) about Christmas, but we hope you'll mark your calendars and watch for details later. Ornaments - Handmade in Michigan

bot ornament Some of my favorite ornaments at FOUND are ones that are handmade, right here in Michigan.  Deanne Nieburger, aka Deets, is an Ann Arbor artist who makes wonderful little ornaments incorporating recycled vacuum tubes (once used in TVs, radios, speakers and electronics of all sorts).   Above is a robot.  Below are her new style penguin ornament and a snowman ornament.  Each tiny sculpted face has its own personality!  She brought in dozens last week - some with old Christmas light bulbs instead of the electronics tube. snoman bot I love the quirky expressions.  And the adorable little scarves that Deanne makes for each of them.  penguin ornament The Au Gres Sheep Factory, located in Au Gres, Michigan, provides us with fabulous felted wool ornaments each year.  They mainly produce wool and roving for weavers and knitters, but we're really glad they take time out to make these wooly white polar bears! au gres polar bears We carry wooly little Au Gres lambs and sheep year round.  For Christmas, we ordered red wool cardinals and these fox ornaments. au gres fox The Au Gres animals are $18.50 each.  The ornaments by Deets are $16 each.  If you're looking for extra special ornaments, handmade in Michigan, these 2 makers are our top picks. In addition to these, we stock dozens of styles of imported ornaments and a nice collection of vintage ornaments at prices from $3 to $10 each.     Continue reading

Holiday Display Pics and Raffle Winner

It was a busy week as we scurried to get things ready for the weekend festivities. Thanks to everybody who stopped in for some early shopping.   Below are a few photos.  More later. Winner!  We're pleased to announce that Kathy Rockwood's name was drawn this afternoon  from almost 200 who registered this weekend for our in-store raffle.  She will receive a $50 gift card and an Au Gres polar bear. We found wonderful snowpeople this year. We decided to keep our snowflakes cool in the Coke cooler so they don't melt. The back shelf is piled with vintage ornaments.   Love these felt snowmen!   We found a nice style reproduction feather tree - and lots of little ornaments to put on them. It's getting late - I'll post more photos later - just wanted to give you a quick look.... G'nite Mary   .   Continue reading

Holiday Season begins next week at FOUND

The Holiday Season begins next week at FOUND!
We're enjoying the changing colors and crisp Autumn days - and trying not to eat all the peanut butter cups before the trick-or-treat gang arrives. Christmas seems a long way off, but when we flip the calendar to November, we know it's time to transform FOUND into an 8-week holiday wonderland!
This year, we'll be closed on Halloween and November 1st to do the switch-over.  Vintage sleds and metal snowflakes and an upside-down tree will be hung from the ceiling.  A festive mix of old and new treasures will fill the shop when the doors reopen on Wednesday, November 2nd.
In the meantime, our annual October "Old Stuff" sale continues this weekend.  Pick up candles and other autumn accents for your Thanksgiving table.  Stop by the Farmer's Market on Saturday or the Sunday Artisans Market and stop up to see us - then come back again next weekend and be amazed by the transformation!
