Father's Day

It's that time of year when we celebrate Dads! The third Sunday of June was officially declared Father's Day by President Lyndon Johnson in 1966. But it was celebrated long before that. In the early 1900s, Sonora Dobb, whose mother had died during childbirth, and whose father raised her and her siblings was listening to a sermon on Mother's Day. Contemplating how much her father had done, she decided father's needed a day, too. It was at her urging that churches in Spokane a choose a Sunday in June (the month of her father's birthday) to honor fathers, calling it Father's Day. That was in 1910.

Happy Father's Day to all those who are called Dad, Daddy, Dada, Pa, Papa, Pops, Papai, Father,Grandfather, Grandpa - and all the variations that come out of the mouths of babes!
